New Look

If you've been reading my blog for any length of time you probably noticed that I changed up my look a few weeks ago. I'd been playing with the idea of changing things for a while, and I decided to just go for it. And I absolutely love what this freshening up has done for my little corner of the web.

As much as I hate to admit it, I've struggled with branding myself and my blog. A lot of that comes from knowing what I want but not knowing exactly how to get there. And because of the struggle, I've kinda just avoided it. I got a personal domain name and new look a little over a year ago, but the process stopped there. But now, I've got some more time on my hands to focus on my blog, and I'm slowly trying to get my message consistent. I know this won't all happen overnight, but so far I'm happy with this new look and the potential it has to offer my blog.

Branding and blogging is a strange topic. I've loved blogging since high school, since before it was a "thing" to blog. It's been a hobby that I've really enjoyed over the years, and it's provided me with a creative outlet. And blogging used to be just that - a hobby that some people enjoyed. But now blogging has become a profession. There are TONS of people out there who are full-time bloggers. They literally make their living off their blog - generating content, selling ad space, and working with sponsors. And that's where branding comes into play whereas it hasn't in the past; if you don't have a good brand, people won't pick up what you're laying down. Knowing that there is "competition," so to speak, in the blogging world now is pushing me to work harder to make sure my space is up to speed. I'm not exactly trying to be one of those professional bloggers, but I don't hate the sound of it, and if it's ever going to happen then my branding needs to be on point.

Anyway, I'm starting to go off on a tangent. I really just wanted to formally acknowledge that, yes, I changed up my look, and, no, it's not a glitch or anything. I like. You like?

Whether you blog or not, how do you develop your personal brand?
Leave me a comment; I'd love to know.
