1000 Places: Leeds Castle

Yesterday, I said Blenheim Palace was one of my top two favorite palaces/castles that we visited. Leeds Castle is the other half of that top two. I loved this castle. It's majestic, and it reminded of castles from the medieval era.

1000 Places: Blenheim Palace

Grand. Expansive. Dramatic. These are all words to describe Blenheim Palace. When you think of a palace - a home to royalty - Blenheim Palace is exactly what you imagine. This palace is so jaw-dropping. It's beautiful. I always thought I'd make a darling queen in a future life, but I think I'd prefer to be a Duchess of Marlborough just so I can call Blenheim Palace my own.

Mass + Tea

On our second Sunday in England, my mom and I woke up early and went to mass at Westminster Abbey. I'm not a huge church-goer by any means, but this was something my mom had been saying she wanted to do, and I mean, what kind of Catholic would I be if I didn't go to mass at Westminster Abbey when I had the chance? So up early we were, taking the train to Westminster, and we find ourselves sitting in the same place where Princess Diana got married, worshipping the Lord.

The London Eye

Yesterday, I mentioned my mom's fear of heights at the White Cliffs of Dover. She spazzed out while having her feet firmly planted to the ground and the side of the cliffs being 50 feet away, so you can imagine what I was prepared for when we bought our tickets for the London Eye. For a split second I thought my mom was going to skip out on the experience all together, but surprisingly, the London Eye was way easier than the white cliffs.

White Cliffs of Dover

After Canterbury, my mom and I caught a train to Dover to spend the end of the afternoon walking along the white cliffs. We were really looking forward to this part of the day, but once my mom actually realized what a cliff was she wasn't as thrilled. Long story short, our walk along the cliffs was a lot more of me being annoyed and my mom nearly having a panic attack because she thought she would fall off the edge than a leisurely stroll.

1000 Places: Canterbury Cathedral

Another day, another check mark in my big book of everywhere. That seemed to be a big theme of mine and my mom's English adventure.

Canterbury

My mom and I really enjoyed the day we spent in Canterbury. We were able to explore a beautiful cathedral (post coming soon), and there were wonderful food and shopping options. It was a quaint and welcoming little town. It seemed like there was a surprise around every corner.

The Old Weavers Restaurant

I wanted to share this restaurant in its own post because my mom and I both had the best lunches of our entire lives (not even kidding) at this place while we were visiting Canterbury for the day. You couldn't ask for a better meal with a better setting.

Changing the Guards + St Paul's

Even though it was cloudy and overcast, my mom and I still wanted to see the Changing of the Guards in front of Buckingham Palace. We'd be damned if we left England without doing so, so Thursday morning we woke up and made our way to Buckingham Palace. This was such a big moment for us during our trip. The Changing of the Guards is an iconically London experience, and we had a front row seat.

Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace - home to the modern-day royals. After our long day with Vic, we decided to take it easy and visit this brick beauty.

InstaLately: July Edition

Happy Monday! I figured I would take a break from the England posts today to update just a little about what's been going on this past month. Not too much but so, so much at the same time.

We spent 4th of July weekend up in the mountains of north Georgia. There were 13 of us who rented a house with an awesome view, and we were able to enjoy a lake nearby.

1000 Places: Salisbury Cathedral

We ended our day with Vic where we started our day, in Salisbury. The final place we wanted to see before boarding our train back to London was Salisbury Cathedral.

1000 Places: Stonehenge

WOW! Stonehenge was the highlight of our day with Vic's Taxi, and it is one of the top experiences from our entire 2-week trip to England! If I had to choose one word to describe the hour we spent here: mystifying. The site of this configuration of stones is dumbfounding, and I feel so fortunate that my mom and I were able to see such an iconic symbol of the world with our own eyes.

Avebury

While making our way to Stonehenge, Vic took us to a small town called Avebury.

1000 Places: Bath

After spending our morning at Stourhead Gardens, we ventured to the town of Bath. Y'all, this town was so charming and full of character I could barely stand it.

1000 Places: Stourhead Gardens

The first stop we made during our private tour with Vic's Taxi was Stourhead Gardens. Simply put, this 2600+ acre estate is like stepping into a painting. It's just gorgeous.
