The Thankful Project: Something About Your Significant Other

Today I'm focusing on day 20 of The Thankful Project - "something about your significant other."

When I first read about this project back in October, today was the one day I was most excited to write about. Even though I don't like talking about my relationship much online, Bryan has still been a big part of my life since last summer, and he deserves a little bit of praise in the Blogosphere. We complement each other so well, and I couldn't be more thankful that studying abroad brought us together.

Now I could go on and on about all the things about Bryan that I'm thankful for, but for the sake of not rambling and keeping y'all from gagging your way through this post, I'll do my best to keep this (somewhat) brief.

+ He's thoughtful. I am surprised all the time by some of the things Bryan does for me. I'm constantly in awe that I managed to meet someone who cares about making sure I'm happy and comfortable. Example: My hands and feet are always freezing; I don't get much circulation to my extremities. When we're on the couch, he'll cover my feet with a blanket so that I'm warm.

+ He pays attention. When it comes to emotions, I'm extreme. I'm never just happy, sad, or angry. I'm thrilled, depressed, or livid. And I'm an only child, so I'm used to not having to compromise much. With that information, you can see where dating me might be difficult at times. But Bryan manages pretty darn well, and it's because he pays attention. When I tell him what I need from him, he actually absorbs it and makes an honest effort to react differently the next time. Imagine that, a man who listens.

+ He accepts my weirdness. Like, I'm really weird, y'all. Really weird. But for some reason, Bryan likes me for it. I've even turned him into my weirdo boyfriend. It's a real treat when you can do super embarrassing things around somebody and not be judged for it. But I'll spare you any details because it really is weird.

+ My parents like him. That's a big one for me. The fact that Bryan can be himself and my parents can see why I like him, that's priceless. And Bryan likes my family, too. Win-win.

There are probably 14 million more things about Bryan that I'm thankful for, but I'll leave it at these four things for today. I managed to find myself a really special person, and he makes me swoon every day. I still can't get over how lucky I am to have this guy in my life. He's a real gem, y'all.

Just look how cute he is!
