22 places I want to see

Day 3 of my "22" mini-series! I guess technically it should be day 4, but I missed yesterday. I really meant to post, but time got away from me/Parks & Recreation got the best of me. But c'est la vie, right?

Today I want to share the top of my bucket list with y'all. Travel is something that is very important to me, and after reading Casey's post about the lessons travel teaches us, I felt even more inclined to put this post out there. I really want this blog to eventually become a travel blog, and I'm hoping that after I get through being a broke college student it will happen. I believe that seeing the world truly shapes the person you are. For me, personally, it's euphoric being able to see something I may never see again. It really gives me...a moment. (Thank you, Selena, for helping me to define that feeling.) And when I'm in my final hours and look back on my life, I want to see millions of...moments...that make up a collage of once-in-a-lifetime beauty.

So, here it is, my top 22 places/things/experiences I want to see/do before I kick the bucket. They're in no particular order. Let's be honest, it was hard enough to narrow my massive list down to 22, let alone put that 22 in any sort of order. (Please note that I will accept donations of any kind to make this "to do" list into a "been done" list.) Enjoy!

1. Get SCUBA certified then go diving at (or would it be "in") the Great Barrier Reef. I also just want to see Australia in general.

2. See the Taj Mahal.

3. See the northern lights, even though I absolutely hate the cold and will probably get frostbite to make this happen.

4. Vatican City, Israel, and Mecca. I think seeing three places so heavily devoted to Christianity, Judaism, and Islam would just be incredible - seeing that kind of religious diversity.

5. Easter Island. Yeah, that little bitty island with the big stone heads that sits off the coast of Chile in the South Pacific.

6. Go on an African safari.

7. I also want to visit the Congo. Yes, I know, super dangerous. But it's also one of the most (if not THE most) poverty-stricken countries in the world, and I want to experience it firsthand. I think I'm a pretty grateful person, but I don't think you ever truly appreciate your fortunes until you see just how bad it could really be.

8. See the Egyptian pyramids.

9. See the Grand Canyon. But I'm not going to walk a tightrope across it. No way.

10. Tour Auschwitz. I really hated history in school, but I've always had an interest in the Holocaust. When I was in Berlin, I visited a smaller concentration camp, and now I'm really interested in visiting some bigger ones - especially Auschwitz. My family is also Polish, so being able to visit the country, in general, would be pretty cool.

11. Visit the Greek isles.

12. Somehow manage to get myself to Antarctica. Yeah, again, I know. But I really want to set foot on every continent, and Antarctica is one of the seven. Also, do you have any idea how cool that would be to say that you've been to Antarctica?! Not many people can say that, but I want to be one of the few that can.

13. Stand in the northern and southern hemispheres at the same time in Ecuador. I also want to go to the Galapagos Islands.

14. See Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) in person. That's the big Jesus statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in case you didn't know the actual name for it.

15. As much as I love the Olive Garden, I want to eat some real Italian pasta in Italy.

16. Ride a camel in Morocco.

17. Go skydiving. Over anywhere is fine.

18. Go on an Alaskan cruise.

19. Visit Mount Everest. Notice I didn't say climb. I'd be perfectly fine just exploring the visitor's center, maybe even Base Camp 1 if that's even possible without training. Obviously I know a lot about backpacking rigorous, difficult, and dangerous terrain like the Himalayas.

20. Phuket, Thailand. Tyra Banks took the models there for one of the America's Next Top Model cycles, and ever since I've just been like, "I have to go to Phuket!"

21. Fiji. I don't know. Out of all the islands in the Pacific, Fiji has always been the one to stick out the most to me for whatever reason.

22. Visit Munich over Oktoberfest and Christmastime. I visited Munich when I was studying abroad, and truthfully, I didn't really care for it. I think a lot of that had to do with my group and me not having a solid plan for what we wanted to do while we were there. But I think I will like much more when I visit again. I mean, everybody likes Munich, right? I need to give it a second chance.

And there you have it! What do you think of my list? Have you been to or done any of these things, or do you want to sometime in your life? Share your thoughts, and let me know in the comments. I'd love to hear from you.

  1. I love it all, but mostly Vatican City, Auschwitz, Easter Island, Alaskan cruise and The Taj Mahal. That would round off my top 5. thanks

  2. my list is similar to yours! yes, to see the northern light, yes to sky diving. anywhere

  3. You've got a great list!! Vatican City is awesome...definitely make it there! And Morocco! And the Greek Isle! it ALL! :)
