Cheerleading is a sport!

Today is a monumental day in the cheerleading world. This morning I woke up to news that the International Cheer Union has been accepted as a member of SportAccord! This means that cheerleading is now a recognized sport by the umbrella organization for Olympic and non-Olympic international sports federations, which also organizes international sporting events. This is HUGE! Currently 39 countries from all continents (except Antarctica obviously) are part of ICU and compete every year at The Cheerleading Worlds hosted by the USASF. This year I was so impressed by the european teams as well as the overall growth of the sport. It's amazing to see how far cheer has come in a relatively short time, and I'm excited to see that it is expanding even more. I have been waiting for this day for years, and it is incredible to see that the hard work of many dedicated people has finally paid off. Cheerleaders around the world will be impacted by this progress, and I am so excited to see the opportunities that will open for the industry. Olympics, cheer is coming for you!

Book Review: Skinnydipping by Bethenny Frankel

I can't believe I have not read a book since last summer! School is great and everything, but it bothers me that it gets in the way of me doing the things I enjoy, particularly pleasure reading. But I finally got around to reading my first book of the year, and I couldn't be happier. Hopefully over the summer I'll be able to get some more reading done, which means more book reviews for y'all.

Mom's Day

Happy Mother's Day to this lady! You've been celebrated as my mom for 21 years, and even though I may be a little biased I must say you've done a mighty fine job. I love you, mom.

L: I've been craving ice cream lately. This bad boy looks great, but there were no M&Ms at the bottom. // R: Yep, broke my glasses right in half.

Roughest week ever.

I guess there's no need to beat around the bush... My grandma passed away last weekend, so I'll just leave it to you to imagine how rough this past week has been. Also, my aunt passed away six years ago; that date was just four days after my grandma passed. And my mom has had a couple friends lose a parent this week as well. It's just not been a good time. I also had to bust my butt to get all my course work finished so I could come home early. Everything has just been very...hard, rushed, blurry, and whatever else. Whatever you know about mourning, I've been through it this past week. But I'll have you know I'm a pretty resilient person. Things don't really get me down for too long. I have an uncanny ability to see the good even in the worst situations, and it really does help me to get through the worst of times. For example, my grandma was in pain, and she was having a really hard time these last few months. It is so comforting to know that she is no longer suffering and in a much better place now. Being able to focus on that glimmer of light is keeping me from being an emotional wreck and a half.
