Guts & Butts

January is almost over which means almost everybody on the planet has already broken their new year's resolutions. But not this girl! I've been doing a pretty good job with staying motivated, and today I decided to start tackling another resolution for the year.

I think the reason so many people fail to keep their resolutions is because they overwhelm themselves with so much change at one time. The way I see it, a resolution is a lifestyle change, and it takes time, patience, and gradual changes in order to accomplish the big picture. If you try to change everything so drastically at one time, you'll get overwhelmed and discouraged and eventually give up. So what I do in order to keep my resolutions is only focus on one at a time. By doing that I get myself used to one small change until it becomes part of my life, and then I move on to another resolution. So far I've really worked on wearing makeup and blogging more often, and now I'm starting to workout consistently.

Today was my first day back in the gym for the first time in like, forever, so to start getting in the habit again I decided to go to the "Guts & Butts" workout class. Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like: a workout devoted to your gut and your butt. And I'm hoping I can stick with it considering those are two biggest problem areas. Like Elle Woods says, "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands." Not that I have a husband or anything (and if I did I swear I wouldn't shoot him), but I feel really good about myself right now, and hopefully this happiness will be the motivation I need to get in a solid workout routine.

And if you've already given up on your resolutions and are kinda bummed about it, don't worry! We still have 11 whole months left to make the yearly changes we all want to make. Get back into it, and remember: take it slow and be patient. You can do anything you put your mind to.
