Going Greek

It's Rush Week! And I'm finally, as a junior, rushing for a sorority. Kennesaw has four, soon to be five, panhellenic sororities at the moment. This week I'm hoping to find my perfect match whether it be Alpha Omicron Pi, Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Phi Epsilon, or Phi Mu. Then, the weekend after Labor Day, Kappa Delta will be joining the group as the newest sorority at KSU, which is also an option if I don't find what I'm looking for this week. Who knows where I'll end up? I'm just hoping to find somewhere where I truly feel loved and accepted just like the hundreds of other girls going through this process with me.

Our week started on Monday with Orientation Night where we met our Pi Chi, a girl from one of the sororities chosen to help guide the potential new members (PNMs) through the recruitment process from an unbiased point of view, and our Pi Chi group, which is made up of about 15 girls looking to join a sorority. We listened to presentations from the higher-ups in Greek Life and were given an idea of what to expect throughout the week.

Tuesday was Info Night, and we finally got to speak to the four different sororities and get to know the girls who could possibly be our future sisters. It was so nerve wracking, but as the night went on I got more and more comfortable. The whole point of Tuesday was to make an impression on as many sorority members as possible and to get an all-around understanding of the different groups' values, philanthropies, and sisterhood. At the end of the night, the sororities got together to choose who they wanted to invite back to their parties the following night.

Thankfully I was invited back last night to Chapter Tours Night. Again, we visited each sorority and talked to more girls about the basics, but we also watched short videos about why we should choose each group. Last night was meant to give the PNMs a better idea of what each sorority finds important and to see why the current members chose their respective sisterhood. After visiting each sorority I was invited back to, I was able to list the sororities from my most to least favorite, which will play a role tonight in which sororities I get to see again.

I have two more nights of rush events before Bid Day on Saturday. I'm so glad that I finally decided to go Greek. Part of me wishes I had done it sooner. I was so nervous at the beginning of the week, but now I'm having so much fun and am so excited to become a part of a lifelong sisterhood. I've already met so many awesome girls, and I'm looking forward to all that's to come.
